Family London

16th June 2021

Breaks with 3 generations or more have been on the rise for years, but after a year of being forced apart from our family, now is a better time than ever to give it a go. Here are our top tips for planning your modern-day family trip that will strengthen relationships with your nearest and dearest and give you lifelong memories.

Don’t feel pressured to spend every hour together

Make sure you balance family time with having your own space. Why not plan a family activity after breakfast, such as a pedalo ride in Hyde Park or visit to the Natural History Museum and then leave the afternoon free for everyone to spend their time as they wish, before reuniting for a family meal in the evening at 116 at The Athenaeum.

Be flexible

Travelling in a group means it’s hard to please everyone all the time, so try not to worry about everyone else all the time. There will also likely be differences in childcare approaches, however, as it’s only for a few days, be prepared to let the little things go, such as the children being given a few extra food treats from their grandparents!

Get the right balance of activities

Be careful not to book too many activities and struggle to keep up with your itinerary. As well as grandparents potentially not having the energy to keep up, all adults need time to relax and children need to spend unstructured free time playing too. Luckily, we’re just across the road from Green Park, where kids have space to run free while adults can sit back with a picnic.

Book a family experience

Although you need to make sure you’re not too busy, a family activity is a great way to bond and create memories. There’s always so much going on in London, whether it’s going to see a show at the theatre, checking out the newest pop-ups or something a little more active. Share childcare duties

Make the most of having more adults away with you so you can spend time as a couple. Arrange times when grandparents take the children out, or look after them so you can spend some quality time together over a relaxing spa treatment or cocktail in The View, our exclusive residents lounge offering panoramic views over the cityscape of London. Just make sure you return the favour for your parents!

Enjoy your own space

Residences at The Athenaeum are ideal for multi-generational trips to London. Each apartment has a separate bedroom, living areas with dining tables and fully equipped kitchens. Providing all of life’s little luxuries, they can be made into interconnecting spaces too, perfect for multi-gen trips to the city.
