Spa Manager Kayleigh Anderson

2nd September 2020

Welcome back Kayleigh, we are delighted that the spa has finally reopened. How did you find lockdown?

Obviously it was a very worrying time for many reasons but I have to admit, I found it relaxing. Being forced to switch off meant I had time to unwind and re-connect with family.

How did you manage to maintain your physical and mental wellbeing during lockdown?

A very simple one – exercise! I particularly enjoyed the Ciara Squad live workouts and the range of classes available via Peloton One.

With mask wearing and hand sanitizing the new normal, which skincare product is your current go-to?

For skincare, the REN Vita Mineral Emollient Rescue Cream is incredible. With a rich, balm-like texture, it really helps to re-hydrate. For handcare, the REN Atlantic Kelp and Magnesium Energising Hand Lotion helps to replenish skin with essential minerals, while restoring suppleness. Plus it has a lovely fragrance!

The refurbished spa was unveiled earlier this year, but is still yet to be seen by many guests. What are you most excited about spa goers experiencing?

Although we’re disappointed that we couldn’t invite guests to experience the new spa right away, the refurbishment has come at a great time as people are now in need of a relaxing spa day more than ever. The brand new hot tub is not to be missed – it’s far more spacious than the two that were there previously.

It’s been a tough few months, what treatment would you recommend to melt away stress?

Our ‘Back to Life’ massage would be absolutely perfect as it combines Japanese acupressure and Swedish massage techniques to restore your inner balance. I’d also recommend our ‘Radiance’ facial as it’s designed to resurface dull skin and concludes with a relaxing head massage to relieve tension.

With social distancing guidelines in place, what can guests expect when they next visit?

Despite the full PPE, we’re hoping to keep things as ‘normal’ as possible and the hotel have done an amazing job of making sure everyone enters The Athenaeum safely. Unfortunately, we can’t open our sauna and steam room yet, but guests can expect the hot tub to themselves.

To take advantage of the quiet London streets, as well as a treatment at the spa, what would your ideal London day out include?

The Athenaeum is in an incredible location for a spot of sightseeing. After a crowd-free visit to neighbouring Buckingham Palace, I would indulge in some retail therapy, before enjoying an alfresco lunch in the beautiful courtyard at Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden.
