A Nod To Jim

This year, as a nod, a wink and a tip of the hat, we decided to honour the man who optimises The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences, both in his character and in his personality. Snow Windows have installed an art display in snow spray that creates a wintery landscape of a London backdrop. Our festive display further features Jim our iconic Doorman over 31 years pulling our famous penny farthing sleigh, along with Arthur The Athenaeum, who travelled the breath of the USA alongside Jim during his travels. We turned this art installation into an art illustration for our Christmas cards this year to share this experience with our guests and friends and wish you all a merry Christmas and happy new year.

ABOUT JIM

Jim Burns has been a constant stalwart of The Athenaeum Hotel, having served as the hotel’s Doorman for 31 years, he is now the hotel’s first ambassador. Over the last 31 years, Jim has been welcomed to the hotel and made friends with celebrities and famous personalities, rubbing shoulders with Nelson Mandella, Harrison Ford, Steven Speilberg and Denzel Washington just to name a few. At 6ft 4, Jim has diligently stood tall in front of our hotel doors. Although, it’s not his height that makes him stand out, it’s his big warm smile and those mutton chop sideburns! Always friendly, chatting to guests, tourists and locals alike, he is a true old fashioned Mayfair gentleman if there ever was one.
