WOW – Women of the World

6 – 8 MARCH 2020

Taking place from 6 to 8 March 2020 – coinciding with International Women’s Day too – WOW – Women of the World celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. Exploring gender equality across the globe – talks, performances and readings will take place at the Southbank Centre over three fascinating days. Plenty of well-known faces will be there too, including Naomi Wolf, Sandi Toksvig and Shazia Mirza.

This global event for positive environmental impact will see many lights switched off for an hour on Saturday 28 March. Major landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, the Millennium Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral will switch off their lights at 20:30. Either soak it all up in the heart of London or enjoy the incredible outlook from The View.

London Book & Screen Week

9 – 15 MARCH 2020

A celebration of film and the written word, London Book & Screen Week takes place from 9 to 15 March. Including a range of special events, from An Evening with Lynda La Plante to a celebration of 15 years of the revived Dr Who, there is something for each and every fan of literature and the arts.

London St. Patrick’s Day Festival 2020

Watch the city turn green on Sunday 15 March as the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations take over London. As well as a huge parade making its way through the city centre, Trafalgar Square will be a hub of events, with Irish food and plenty of dancing.

Ballet fans should make their way to the Royal Opera House from 5 March onwards for the Royal Ballet’s revival of Tchaikovsky’s classic. Another experience ideal for Mother’s Day, this revival of Swan Lake includes much-anticipated additional choreography and incredible new designs.

An event exploring the most important questions of our times, FutureFest looks at everything from how the planet can sustain us, to the real stories behind our favourite technology. With interactive experiences, talks, debates and a line-up of well-known faces – from documentary maker Louis Theroux to neuroscientist Anil Seth – this promises to be a one-of-a-kind event on 20 March 2020.

David Hockney: Drawing from Life

An exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery devoted to David Hockney’s journey from being a draughtsman in the 1950s, this is a fascinating insight into the artist. Featuring 150 artworks from both public and private collections, the show also includes a selection of daily self-portraits Hockney created in the 1980s over a period of two months.
