The first ever London National Park City Week from 21 to 29 July is a testament to London’s ongoing commitment to the pleasures and importance of green space. An initiative of the Mayor of London, there will be 270 events and activities going on throughout the week to celebrate the city’s green spaces. It’s the perfect time for Londoners and visitors alike to explore London’s green spots and enjoy family activities.
With Royal Green Park ready to discover opposite The Athenaeum, this is the ideal time to get outdoors with one of our decadent picnics while soaking up the feeling of being in one of London’s green gems. Remember to post your photos for social media with #NationalParkCity and #AthenaeumLife!
Here’s a selection of events and activities going on nearby for London National Park City Week:
This day walk and talk sets off from Shakespeare’s Fountain in Leicester Square at 10:30 on Thursday 26 July. A nine-mile circular walk, this event takes in everything from Trafalgar Square and Parliament Square, to Tower Bridge and Covent Garden, with a stop at the foodie favourite Borough Market for lunch. It’s possible to only do part of the route if you prefer.
This three-mile evening walk sets off from the National Gallery at 19:00 on Friday 27 July. Take in the exhibition of Henry Cole – the early US conservationist – before walking over the Millennium Bridge and exploring London’s Urban Forest.
This is an opportunity to meet the people behind London’s new public space – Wild West End Garden. The space was designed by Kate Gould, Gold winner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show this year. The event runs from 15:00 to 17:00 on Tuesday 24 July in Old Quebec Street.
This all-day fair on Saturday 21 July in Red Lion Square is an opportunity to learn more about the organisations running events for London National Park City Week. Find out about urban food growing, citizen science and rambling, learn more about parkour, and listen to a series of talks, including one by a dog!
This 90-minute workshop on Monday 23 July starts at the gardens of the Imperial War Museum at 10:00. Perfect for the whole family, you’ll learn how to capture the scents and smells of urban green spaces.
It’s time to get out and about during London National Park City Week!
