Fashion Week Cocktail at The Bar

8th February 2019

Resident bartender at The Athenaeum, Gennaro Schiano, has a true talent when it comes to creating the perfect drink for any particular occasion. So much so that Gennaro was even crowned the champion at the International Bartender Association Nationals in 2018 for his pre-dinner tipple called Infinity Love. This drink combines pear Grey Goose, Campari, St. Germain and an ancient red vermouth that dates back to 1786. Topped with a mist of Gennaro’s home-made root and spice infusion, it’s easy to see that Gennaro has a true spark of creativity when it comes to mixology.

With London Fashion Week coming to our home city from 15 to 19 February, Gennaro was inspired to create two cocktails for the occasion, which will be served exclusively in The Bar at The Athenaeum. Equally worthy for fashionistas as for cocktail lovers, here are Gennaro’s creations for the biggest fashion event on London’s calendar.

Elegance is a cocktail to celebrate the grace, sophistication and style of London Fashion Week models. This cocktail includes Chase gin, which uses rare apple varieties sourced from 200-year-old orchards. Gennaro has added his own twist to this already special gin, by infusing it with lemon and lime peel for two weeks before London Fashion Week begins. Our Elegance cocktail includes yet another luxurious ingredient – Strega liqueur. Invented in Italy in 1860, this classic herb-based liqueur has no less than 70 herbs in its recipe, and has a distinctive yellow colour thanks to the addition of saffron.

Element of Old Fashion is a cocktail that pays homage to fashions from the last decade. Br6 whisky is the key ingredient here, which hails from Islay, an island in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides. Bottled from a small batch, this whisky captures the flavour of the coast and the sumptuousness of fruit orchards. Combined with drops of Angostura, sweet vermouth and some of The Athenaeum’s bespoke bitters infused with cinnamon and cloves, this cocktail has a touch of both sweetness and spice.

Visit The Bar at The Athenaeum during London Fashion Week to try Gennaro’s exclusive cocktails and raise a glass to our great city’s love affair with the world of fashion.
