From 23rd November until 8th January the festive classic, The Nutcracker, graces the stage at the Royal Opera House. Watch in awe as The Royal Ballet pirouette and leap across the stage to Tchaikovsky’s enchanting music, with renowned choreographer and director, Peter Wright, leading the production. This charming performance will leave you feeling even more excited for the upcoming festivities.
A Charles Dickens classic and a must-see this Christmas, A Christmas Carol has been beautifully reinvented for the stage by Jack Thorne. From 13th November until 8th January, enjoy director Matthew Warchus’ uniquely staged production with its talented cast of actors, with renowned Stephen Mangan playing Ebenezer Scrooge himself.
On Sunday 19th December, prepare for a heart-warming evening full of traditional Christmas carols with Carols by Candlelight. Staged at the Barbican Hall, this rousing concert that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck will be performed by the Mozart Festival Orchestra and Chorus. Fully dressed in 18th Century costume, this beautiful concert will be sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.
A magical reimagining of Raymond Briggs’ much-loved children’s book, The Snowman, this performance directed by Bill Alexander will transport the audience into a wonderful wintry wonderland within the walls of Saddler’s Wells Peacock Theatre. With enchanting live music, dance and storytelling, we will certainly be wishing for a white Christmas… Performances take place between 20th November and 2nd January.
Pay a visit to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and watch your little ones’ eyes light up in excitement as Elsa and Anna take to the West End stage in a stunning theatrical rendition of the Frozen movie. Enjoy a magical evening with all of the popular songs plus some new music from the writers of ‘Let It Go’, breath-taking scenery and incredible special effects.
Grab your magic carpet and journey to the Middle East, joining Aladdin in his quest to find true love and fortune between 19th November and 2nd January. With beautiful costume design, choreography and fantastic live music, you’ll be truly entertained this Christmas. This magical adaptation at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre is by award-winning actor, composer and comedian Vikki Stone.
The pantomime is the quintessential British entertainment during the festive season. With vibrant, colourful costumes, lively music and of course, the wildly theatrical pantomime dame, these seasonal performances are always a hit with young families. This year from 3rd December until 2nd January, Richmond Theatre will play host to a magical performance of Cinderella, with Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke portraying the iconic character of Buttons. Expect laugh-out-loud comedy with plenty of boos and hisses along the way as you follow Cinderella’s transformation from rags to riches.
You can never be too old for Disney, so gather the whole family and skate over to The O2 arena for a magnificent evening of Disney on Ice. From 22nd December to 2nd January, gaze in awe as your favourite Disney tales come to life through world-class ice-skating routines, with Tangled, Moana and The Little Mermaid being some of the many stories set to be performed. This one’s always popular with families, so book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment!
