Douglas the Dog

15th May 2017

Here at The Athenaeum, we are happy to call ourselves a dog-friendly hotel, as long as they are small and well behaved! Being located right opposite Green Park, we are in the perfect location for dog owners.

Heath the adorable canine, gives us his impression of our dog-friendly Hotel & Residences…

“Apart from the fact that I had to make a trip to the groomers for my appearance so that I was even more white and fluffy than usual… I was delighted to be asked to take part in the filming of The Athenaeum’s video and had a woof-i-liciously waggy time during my stay at the hotel.

Jim, the Doorman, a very tall hoo-man, opened the door for me and addressed me with a doff of his very tall hat that I thought was entirely appropriate to a dog of my pedigree – I could tell he was a military man. Arthur, the chief dog-greeter, was waiting in reception to welcome me on arrival. Apparently the younger guests l-urve him. He was sporting a very dapper tartan collar. Hmmm… I was wearing my sporty red and white spotty number which I reserve for paw-sonal appearances and strolls down red carpets – hope he approved.”

“Everyone made me very welcome. Of course they did I am too gorgeous and lovable for my paws. There were plenty of freshly topped up water bowls and delicious treats which are supplied for all dogs arriving in their rooms, or Residences. Note to dog-self; must have a word with my Hoo-Mum to book me in for another stay. The carpets were fluffy under-paw, the lifts weren’t scary and it was soooo quiet for undisturbed napping. The peeps in their uniforms apparently crept past the room when I was left on my own… harrumph!… to make sure I wasn’t chatting away to myself.”

Outside Athenaeum Residences

“The best part of staying at The Athenaeum is ‘walkies’! Sniff right for Royal Hyde Park or follow your nose straight ahead for Royal Green Park a glorious 47 acres of grass and trees. There was no shortage of volunteers asking to take me out to stretch my paws while I attended to important business. As a matter of course, we dropped by the neighbours at Buckingham Palace. Unfortunately no one was in residence to entertain me apart from some men in red uniforms with very shiny boots and more very tall hats. There was something to do with bears and skin… but there were no marmalade sandwiches and we were nowhere near Paddington Station!

So finally we sat outside on the Terrace for obligatory ‘drinkies’. So much to sniff, plenty of tail-wagging action at passers-by and frequent water bowl topping up not to mention the occasional under the table sneaky treat. A paw-fect end to a paw-fect day.”
