Family Rooms at The Athenaeum

19th January 2018

8am:

Start the day right with a hearty breakfast at The Athenaeum. For the health conscious we have fresh smoothies. For the hungry we have a full English. For the children and young at heart we have waffles!

9am:

Take a walk up the road to soak up the lights and buzz of Piccadilly Circus. Stroll up Regent Street to visit Hamleys, the most famous toy store in the world. Treat the children with a visit to M&M’s World, where they can have their faces printed on M&M sweets!

10:30am:

Head over to Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s administrative headquarters. Around four days per week at 11am, the Changing the Guard ceremony takes place. It’s an amazing event steeped in history, loved by children and adults alike.

11:30am:

Nearby is the Houses of Parliament, another iconic London location. Introduce your children to the workings of parliament with a fun-packed family tour, full of history and family-friendly teasers.

1pm:

Cross Westminster Bridge and find somewhere for lunch along the Southbank, right by the River Thames. There are plenty of restaurants and food stands to choose from, and at various times of the year, there are food markets too.

2pm:

Choose an activity or two to complete your day out in London. Along the Southbank, take a trip on London’s larger than life enclose Ferris wheel, the London Eye. The London Dungeon and SEA LIFE London Aquarium are on the same stretch of the river too – ideal for scaring yourselves silly or surrounding yourselves with spectacular tunnels of fish. Alternatively, go on Shrek’s Adventure – an immersive adventure where you’ll meet Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and Shrek himself. Or take in a matinee show in London’s theatreland – The Lion King, Wicked and School of Rock all have matinee showings a couple of times a week.

6pm:

Treat the kids to a meal out in a fun environment such as the Rainforest Café, Planet Hollywood or the Hard Rock Café. Or if they’re tired out after a jam-packed day, cook dinner or order room service back at The Athenaeum. If you’re staying in one of our luxury Residences, it comes complete with a fully equipped kitchen.

8pm:

After the kids are tucked up in bed, it’s adult time! Snuggle up with a glass of wine and a movie. Now that’s what we call well-deserved bliss.
