Serving the Capital’s residents with an eclectic selection of sweet and savoury items, Clarke’s food store on Kensington Church Street sits opposite its popular restaurant counterpart and offers sandwiches, cakes, wine, chocolates and other light bites. The quaint little corner shop originally only served baked goods to its customers but has since established a small café nestled at the back which offers takeaway coffee and pastries, and a quiet space to sit, relax and catch up with friends. We were thrilled to learn that Clarke’s are also committed to reducing waste and curbing its impact on the environment, and that they have enlisted the assistance of Ecofleet to aid in sustainable local deliveries. If you are local, this is definitely a business to support!
Established in 2008 by Charlie and Frank Boxer and Luigi deLieto, Italo strives to reflect the values of its community and remain inclusive for all. Italo Deli offers a wide variety, from baked goods and condiments, to dairy, pasta and positively indulgent ice cream. Bespoke hampers and other gifts are also available – a perfect way to treat someone special. And, if you fancy a quick cup of coffee mid-shop as the sun rises slowly behind the trees of Bonnington Square, Italo has you covered with their small in-store cafe, which serves the finest Italian fare that will make you question whether you really are in London, and not Italy itself.
If you are always the first to the cheese board and last to leave it at Christmas, (that’s us!) La Fromagerie will be your new best friend. Tucked away on Moxon Street, this utter cheese-heaven will leave you overwhelmed with choice, with distinctive varieties from France, Holland, Germany and Belgium, just to name a few. Also on offer are baked goods, fresh meats from Yorkshire, and other mouth-watering dishes, all freshly prepared in La Fromagerie’s kitchen. We suggest you set aside lots of time in your day to enjoy wholly and undisturbed. Tastings are available and, in our opinion, are an absolute must!
Champions of sustainable, regenerative and community-supported agriculture, Spring To Go pride themselves in their approach to revolutionise the food system. With the prosperity of local farmers and small producers being a key incentive, Spring To Go offers the freshest organic eggs, milk and cream from Heckfield Home Farm, as well as charming little boxes of biodynamic produce from Fern Verrow. In addition, you can find jams, cakes, cordials, pastries and naturally fermented breads, all neatly wrapped in packaging that has been made from plants, and is either compostable or recyclable. So, if you purchase their Fern Verrow Vegetable Box, you’ll be doing your bit for the environment too!
Last but not least on our list of London food stores is Panzer’s Deli. Proudly serving the local community since 1944 and last year’s winner of ‘Delicatessen of the Year’, it’s a treasure trove filled with culinary delights from all around the globe. Famous for its hand-sliced Scottish smoked salmon and its large variety of freshly-baked bagels, Panzer’s also boasts an extensive array of delicious sandwiches, salads, exotic fruit and vegetables and their very own floristry. Located a few streets away from Lord’s Cricket Ground, this little haven is the perfect spot to find unique gifts and hampers for loved ones.
