A Glimpse into Chinatown’s History

London’s Chinese community first formed in the early twentieth century in Limehouse in East London. After post war redevelopment, the community gradually moved to Soho where today’s Chinatown grew into a thriving cultural centre. Traditional architecture, symbolic red lanterns and the impressive paifang gate on Wardour Street, created in China and assembled in London, celebrate a proud heritage while embracing the energy of modern London.
