Meet William Baker, our Executive Chef
Get familiar with the faces you’ll see at The Athenaeum with our new series of staff Q&A’s. To kick things off, we caught up with our Executive Chef, William Baker.

Children love The Athenaeum from the moment they arrive! They are greeted by Jim, our Doorman, who many of think is a giant (he’s 6ft6!). Also, we have a warm and friendly laid back atmosphere so the children feel relaxed and so do the parents. The children also enjoy the toys, scooters and bikes that we offer and also the surrounding parks – Green Park is right across the road.
Children’s Concierge is a service that we offer to everyone travelling with children. A questionnaire is sent out after guests have made a booking for parents/guardians to complete in regards to the child’s favourite things including toys and films. Then, where available, we place these in their room in time for their arrival so that they feel extra special!
From being family-run we are able to see from a family’s point of view, especially when it comes to their needs while travelling, so it allows us to accommodate their requirements. For example, many of our Residences offer a sofa or bunk beds, a compact kitchenette which has a fridge, washing machine and more essentials that a family would need in a home setting.
I would definitely recommend Buckingham palace which is only a short walk away from us, Princess Diana playground, The London Eye, Science Museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not…
The most enjoyable part of my job is when the guests call to see me, and thank me for my help. I just love seeing the smiles and happy faces!
I’d say anyone who is easy to get along with and has a spirit of adventure and is willing to embrace whatever travelling may bring with a smile on their face!
