Say hello to sally for me
Over the years Sally Bulloch and the Athenaeum hotel became
inextricably linked. Together they created a party that nobody
wanted to leave.'
The Athenaeum is delighted to announce the publication of 'Say
Hello to Sally for Me', an account of the extraordinary life and
adventures of Sally Bulloch, the hotel’s much-loved General
Manager.
Written by her great friend and accomplice Lynda Berry, this
collection of anecdotes spans her life from Hampstead to Hollywood
and includes memories, stories and tributes from her friends
including Richard Dreyfuss, Peter Cook, Nelson Mandela, Robert
Wagner and Sir Denis and Lady Thatcher.
The book will be launched on 12th October and will be available for
guests at the hotel, as well as to purchase online for £7.99 with
all proceeds going to Chicken Shed - the
children's theatre production charity.
It was because of her delightful charm and true understanding of
the meaning of hospitality that the hotel became known as
'Tinsletown on the Thames'. She befriended stars such as Paul
McCartney, John Lennon and the emerging talent of the Swinging
60's, as well as a whole constellation of movie stars and producers
from Hollywood throughout the ʻ80ʼs and 90ʼs.
The book entertains with tales of ingenious marketing and sales
innovations as well as sparkling parties and convivial practical
jokes with the likes of Richard Dreyfuss, Dudley Moore, Robert
Wagner and Robert Redford. Berry recounts Sally's friendly
encounters with celebrity guests including Robert Mitchum, Bea
Arthur and Alan and Red Bond, as well as Sally's first meeting with
Bill Clinton.
Sir Denis and Lady Thatcher, who moved into the hotel for three
months while their own home was being refurbished, became firm
friends.
'Say Hello to Sally for me' is the Athenaeum's tribute to Sally;
she really was one of a kind.
'Sally was everything to the athenaeum, and the athenaeum was
everything to Sally'.
